The MTCMC Animal Bite Center provides prompt, comprehensive, and evidence-based medical care for patients exposed to animal bites, scratches, and other potential rabies-risk incidents. Staffed by trained healthcare professionals, the center delivers immediate wound management, rabies post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), tetanus immunization, and patient education in accordance with national and international clinical guidelines.
Our goal is to prevent rabies and other wound-related infections while ensuring timely, compassionate, and high-quality care for both adults and children.
Services Offered:
- Emergency Assessment and Consultation – Immediate evaluation of animal bite and scratch injuries to determine the appropriate course of treatment.
- Wound Cleansing and Management – Thorough cleaning, disinfection, dressing, and treatment of bite wounds to reduce the risk of infection.
- Rabies Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) – Administration of anti-rabies vaccines based on the patient's exposure risk and recommended vaccination schedule.
- Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG) Administration – Provision of rabies immunoglobulin for eligible patients requiring additional protection against rabies infection.
- Tetanus Immunization – Assessment and administration of tetanus toxoid or tetanus prophylaxis when indicated.
- Antibiotic Therapy – Prescription and management of antibiotics for the prevention or treatment of wound infections when clinically appropriate.
- Follow-up Care and Vaccination Monitoring – Scheduled follow-up visits to complete the recommended vaccination series and monitor wound healing.
- Patient Education and Counseling – Guidance on wound care, rabies prevention, responsible pet ownership, and measures to reduce future animal bite incidents.
